Singapore (September 12, 2005) - Imation Corp. (NYSE:
IMN) - a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, today announced
the launch of Imation Micro Hard Drive, available in a 2 GB capacity
now (4GB available in Q4). The Imation Micro Hard Drive offers on-the-go
professionals an ultra portable, reliable and secure way to share, store
and transport important data and information.
The Micro Hard Drive has an embedded hard disk drive, measuring 0.85-inch in diameter, and was listed in the 2005 Guinness Book of World Records’ as the smallest hard disk drive.
At just 1.61 by 0.66 by 3.3 inches, around the size of a standard small padlock, the Micro Hard Drive weighs only one ounce. It provides a read speed of 5 MB per second and a write speed of 3.2 MB per second with the built-in flexible USB 2.0 connector. The drive is powered through the USB port, and so no external power supply is needed.
The drive is engineered to withstand shocks of up to 1,000 Gs, making the drive suitable for many demanding scenarios. The Micro Hard Drive is compatible with Microsoft Windows (ME, 2000, XP and higher), Mac (OS 9.x and OS X), as well as Linux (Kernel 2.4.2 and above; drive only).
The free software Imation Security Manager (available free at Imation’s
website at www.imation-southasia.com), which provides automatic file
synchronization, compression, version control, password protection and
128-bit file encryption, is compatible with Microsoft Windows (ME, 2000
and XP) and Mac (OS 10.2 and above). Through the Imation Security Manager
software, users can easily synchronize and back up data to and from
their desktops or laptops, compress the files to save storage space,
provide secured access with passwords, and even encrypt individual files
using 128-bit encryption, to ensure that even if the device is lost
accidentally, it will be difficult for others to retrieve or use the
encrypted information.

The 2GB Imation Micro Hard Drive will be available at authorized Imation distributors at a suggested retail price (SRP) of S$ 249. A 4GB Imation Micro Hard Drive will be available in Q4.
