Imation and Sun have signed a global Media Distribution
Agreement (MDA) dated February 14, 2007 that was publicly
announced via
http://www.sun.com
Under the MDA, Imation will fulfil channel partner purchase
orders for Sun StorageTek brand media.
The agreement covers Sun StorageTek brand T10000, 9940,
9840, LTO2/3/4 media and related products. Imation will
leverage its extensive core competencies in VOLSER
processing, labeling & initialization and drop-shipping from
their global Sun StorageTek brand media distribution center
inventories. |

The key benefits that this MDA brings include:
- Expand the Sun StorageTek branded media distribution network in the marketplace
- Provide customers who purchase after-market tape cartridges from Sun, a much faster
turnaround time of 7-10 days
- Allow Sun to be price competitive in the media/tape cartridges marketplace. Sun partners will
realize cost savings buying Sun media through MDA model rather than internal price list.
- Allow Sun customers to have access to Imation’s exclusive T.A.P.E. (Total Assessment &
Performance Evaluation) Program / iH.E.L.P (Imation Health Evaluation for LTO Performance)
program. |

Imation also complements your Sun LTO tape purchase with its unique iH.E.L.P service. Using proprietary analytical software, Imation assists data center managers to pin point problematic media and tape drives. iH.E.L.P is also useful in assessing the general health of the LTO tape media population with the ability to identify poor handling, media tear and unbalanced allocation of tape cartridges usage. Such information can then be further used for planning the retirement of the LTO tapes.
