Flash Media and FlashGo! Device(Flash Card Reader)FAQ

Q. Do I need a software update for using the Imation FlashGO! device with Windows XP?

  • The drivers built into Windows XP will work fine to power your Imation FlashGO!™ device.
We have posted on the Imation Web site new software that includes a formatting utility for flash media. There is also new firmware that is needed to use the formatting utility. This formatting utility applies to Windows XP, as well as Windows 98, ME and 2000.

Here are a couple of suggestions if you experience problems using the Imation FlashGO! device on Windows XP:
    • Insert the flash media card and adapter (if needed) into the FlashGO! device before inserting it into the USB port.

    • Insert the FlashGO! device directly into the computer's USB port, not into a hub.

    • When you are ready to remove the flash media card, disconnect the device by using the icon (green arrow over a card) in your system tray (this is the same area where your computer time is located). Once it tells you that it is safe to disconnect the device, unplug the whole unit, remove the flash card, insert the next card and then replug the whole device again.

    • In the Device Manager, the FlashGO! device is detected and displayed under Disk Drives. It should be displayed as OEI-USB.

Right click on the OEI-USB entry and choose Properties.
Go to the Policy tab and click the top radio button.
Optimize for Quick Removal, and click OK.
      This should improve performance.

    1. In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab and then click on the Advanced button.
    2. Uncheck the box titled "Show settings icon on task bar". Click on the Apply button and then on OK.

Now Windows will not show the error message for the display settings whenever the system is being restarted or booted.

Q. Why doesn't my flash media work after using it on the Imation FlashGO! device?

  • Here is our recommendation for using the Imation FlashGO!™ device to recover your flash media that may have become corrupted during usage and suggestions to prevent corruption in the future.

    • The most recent version of the Imation FlashGO! driver software contains a formatting utility to restore your media to its original formatting. Get the download here and then install the newest driver and firmware.

    • After installing the downloads, follow the steps below:
      1. Insert the flash media into the Imation FlashGO! device and attach the FlashGO! device to the computer USB port.

      2. Double click on My Computer.

      3. In My Computer, right click on your removable (Imation FlashGO! device) drive letter and choose Format from the pop-up menu.

      4. Choose Full Format and Click the Start button.
Note: The Imation format utility will have a red "F" in the upper left corner, the Windows® format utility does not.

      5. This will bring up the new formatting utility. After formatting is completed, you should be able to use your media again.
Note: You can also start the format utility from Start, then Programs, and then Imation FlashGO! USB. Choose the Digital Media Formatter.

Suggestions to prevent corruptions in the future:
    • The Imation FlashGO! device is designed to use standard formatted media.
If the camera or other device that you are using with the flash media uses a proprietary formatting, this could corrupt your media.

You should confirm this with your camera manufacturer before using the Imation FlashGO! device. If you are not sure, write protect the media before using it in the Imation FlashGO! device.

    • Copying the files to your computer and then placing the flash media back into the device should not corrupt the media.

    • While editing or deleting files the computer may put its own format on the flash media and this could potentially corrupt your media.
